HILDENE CELEBRATES INSPIRING VERMONT YOUTH 

Manchester, VT, May 1, 2025 - Students, families, teachers, principals, judges, and guests from across Vermont will gather in Hildene’s Lincoln Hall in Manchester on May 18 to honor the winners of the 19th annual VT 8th Grade Lincoln Essay Competition. Hildene received 158 essays from around the state. After several rounds of judging, a first, second, and third-place winner was chosen from each of four regions, along with an additional two honorable mentions. First-place winners will receive $500; second-place, $400; third-place, $300; and honorable mentions, $200. The public and press are welcome to attend the luncheon (tickets available at www.hildene.org).

MANCHESTER, VT - Those with an interest in Abraham Lincoln and his family are invited to gather with the attendees of The Lincoln Forum Symposium at Hildene, for dinner and an evening presentation on Saturday, April 26. About 150 Lincoln historians and scholars hailing from 30 different states will to travel to Vermont for the symposium, from April 25 to 27, an event they anticipate will be held annually at Lincoln Hall, Hildene's new programs and celebrations center.

MANCHESTER, VT - Those with an interest in Abraham Lincoln and his family are invited to gather with attendees of The Lincoln Forum Symposium at Hildene on Saturday, April 26, for dinner and a keynote by Lincoln scholar and Lincoln Forum Chairman Harold Holzer. He will present an illustrated talk on the Lincoln family's album that he discovered over 40 years ago at Hildene and which contained previously unknown pictures of the Lincolns dating from the 1850s to the 1950s.

Hildene's Many Voices exhibit is on the Vermont African American Heritage Trail.

MANCHESTER, VT - In honor of Black History Month, the public is invited to visit Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home, to explore the story of the Pullman Porters as told in the Many Voices exhibit, located at the beautifully restored 1903 Pullman railcar, Sunbeam.

Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home, marked a significant milestone with the grand opening of Lincoln Hall, its new year-round programming facility.

(May 21, 2024) — Students, families, teachers, principals, judges, and guests from across Vermont gathered in Manchester on Sunday to honor the winners of the 18th annual Lincoln Essay Competition at Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home. This year’s topic focused on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) across various fields and sectors in our society.

LINCOLN ESSAY COMPETITION WINNERS CELEBRATED

At Sunday's award ceremony, fifteen Vermont eighth grade students were recognized for their compelling essays and the first place winners read their essays to a supportive crowd. Every student received guest passes to visit Hildene and a cash prize with an acknowledgement letter. The celebration was the culmination of a year-long process in which Hildene received a remarkable 211 submissions statewide, showcasing diverse perspectives on AI's role in different sectors. After rigorous evaluation, first, second, and third-place winners were chosen from four Vermont regions encompassing the whole state, and three honorable mentions were then selected from the combined pool of finalists.
